JK Rowling responde a críticas racistas sobre Hermione negra
JK Rowling apoiou o casting da peça Harry Potter and the Cursed Child desde o início. Recentemente respondeu às críticas racistas face à atriz que interpretará Hermione.
Na semana passada, o The Palace Theater em Londres divulgou uma série de fotos da sua próxima produção, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. As estrelas da peça são Jamie Parker como Harry Potter, Paul Thornley no papel de Ron Weasley, e Noma Dumezweni como Hermione Granger. Este último casting gerou uma enorme controvérsia entre os fãs assim que a escolha para o papel de Hermione foi revelada, e mesmo com o apoio incondicional da autora dos livros Harry Potter, JK Rowling, ou até da atriz que deu vida à personagem no grande ecrã, Emma Watson, as críticas racistas não cessaram. Recentemente Rowling teve oportunidade de confessar numa entrevista ao Observer a sua frustração face à reação desagradável que o casting de Dumezweni gerou.

Embora a grande maioria das pessoas tenha respondido de forma bastante positiva à decisão do casting, Rowling confessou:
I had a bunch of racists telling me that because Hermione ‘turned white’ – that is, lost colour from her face after a shock – that she must be a white woman, which I have a great deal of difficulty with. But I decided not to get too agitated about it and simply state quite firmly that Hermione can be a black woman with my absolute blessing and enthusiasm.
