Conhece os 100 melhores filmes do século XXI
“Já não se fazem filmes como antigamente”. A BBC quis provar o contrário e pediu a 177 críticos de todo o mundo que escolhessem os 100 melhores filmes do século XXI.

Atualmente vivemos na suposta era da “morte do cinema”. Época que é debatida em cursos universitários e em que os críticos lamentam a queda dos filmes indie para blockbusters de super-heróis. Os analistas de bilheterias veem sinais de uma indústria em crise, pela pirataria e pelos canais por cabo.
O século XXI ainda há pouco começou, mas o que podemos chamar hoje de um novo clássico? Quais são os filmes que poderão juntar-se ao rol de títulos como de O Padrinho, Vertigo ou Citizen Kane?

A BBC quis mostrar que o século XXI não é apenas constituído por produções gigantescas com muitos efeitos especiais. Então a emissora britânica pediu a 177 críticos, e académicos de 36 países diferentes que reunissem uma lista com os cem melhores filmes realizados por todo o mundo desde 2000.
Um facto interessante é que nenhum dos quatro títulos que integram o top 4 não ganhou o Óscar de Melhor Filme no ano em que concorreu. Falamos de Mulholland Drive (2001), de David Lynch, In the Mood for Love (2000), de Wong Kar-wai, de There Will be Blood (2007), de Paul Thomas Anderson e do filme de animação japonês A Viagem de Chihiro (2001), de Hayao Miyazaki.

Também o cinema português está representado na lista compilada pela BBC. Miguel Gomes, o cineasta português, surge na 71ª posição com Tabu (2012).
Relativamente aos cineastas, apenas cinco realizadores têm três títulos no ranking: Paul Thomas Anderson, Joel e Ethan Coen, Wes Anderson, Christopher Nolan e o tailandês Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Das cineastas femininas destaca-se Kathryn Bigelow, com Zero Dark Thirty e The Hurt Locker, e Sofia Coppola, com Lost in Translation.
